Psalms Scroll 11Q5
The scroll was discovered in 1956 in cave 11 in Qumran, among the Dead Sea Manuscripts. It is the largest and best-preserved manuscript of Psalms among the Dead Sea Scrolls, paleographically dated to approximately 30–50 CE.
The large number of Psalms scrolls found at Qumran, suggest that the Psalms were viewed as scripture by the Qumran community and that the strong Davidic emphasis in this particular scroll correlates with the community’s messianic hopes and expectations. This photographic reproduction is of The Psalms Scrolls 11Q5 includes 11 of the 15 Songs of Ascent (Psalms 120-134). Pilgrims and Priests would sing these Psalms while ascending to the temple on the Mount of Jerusalem. The scroll dates to the first half of the 1st century A.D.
